Nigerian Comic Book Showcase
The Nigerian Comic Book Showcase (NCBS) is a Spaceboy initiative designed to push Nigerian comics as far as they can possibly go. So far, the nascent comic book scene int he country has been in a stage of slow growth. We can kick start that growth into a higher gear.
The plan is simple. Get a team of talented creators to come up with standalone stories giving readers a glimpse of much larger ones. Get it all online and push it on sites like Facebook, Nairaland, Sturvs, and other international sites with a focus on comic books. Once the buzz has gotten out there, readers are offered the opportunity to rate all the comics they have read and the comic book with the highest overall rating gets published along with one or two others, all in order of rating. Spaceboy publishes the comics and handles distribution (to begin with, distribution will be in Lagos) and the creators collect quarterly payments bsed on a percentage off the cover price. That’s it.
Simple right?
There are a lot of stories that can be told about and from within Nigeria, challenging the country’s perception as being filled with nothing but fraudsters, militants, corrupt politicians and one-time great footballers. Or, even if we don’t challenge those views, expose them in a completely new light.
Spaceboy Nigeria aims to provide great guerilla marketing, consistent and effect distribution and print quality in order to bring these comics to the widest audience possible, both at home, and in the future, abroad.
